Another wine popped and poured for Paul and Stef, as well as a plethora of other guests tonight. Again, super young, and this would have benefited from decanting. In all actuality, I probably should have opened an '04, but all I have in the cellar as '04's go are magnums.
Gorgeous, dark inky purple color in the glass, although this wasn't as dark as I remember it being. Gorgeous nose from the get go, and big! I was actually expecting the worst with this, as I usually decant these for a few hours before serving them. Served at cellar temp (55 degrees) and as this wine warmed up, it really started to strut it's stuff.
On the nose, gorgeous dark fruits of blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, and pepper! There are also some nice smokey notes here as well, with some hints of alcohol as well. There are also some meaty notes as well, with hints of anise or licorice.
On the palate, the blackberry is the shining star here! This wine is all about the blackberry, and that is not a bad thing. Nice cherry notes shine through as well, and there is also a bit of dusty, earthiness to this wine at first as well, however, this blew off as the wine warmed up in the glass. There is still a bit of alcohol on this wine, and definitely a touch of oak and tannins still. This will age easily for another 5 years, and I continue to look forward to seeing the way this wine develops. My wine of the night and worthy of 93 points. Cheers!
