Braddocks Tavern - Medford, NJ

Today, Zelda and I were taking a drive to Marlton to go to Joann Fabrics to look for some fabric for outdoor curtains for our new pergola in the backyard bistro, and we figured we'd go to Carriage Trade Cheese Shop in Medford for some grilled panini's for lunch.  Unfortunately, Carriage Trade is closed on Sunday's so instead we walked across the street to Braddocks Tavern where we have had some great lunches and dinners.

We pulled up a stool at one of the high tops at the bar today, and caught the first couple innings of the Phillies game.  What was it today with fan interference?  Total craziness, but no big deal as my heart and soul is still in Chicago when it comes to baseball.  Unfortunately, my Cubbies aren't having the greatest season, but what can you do?  Hopefully I will see a Cubs World Series in my lifetime.  Gramps didn't, but I am hoping that will not be the case for me.  We came so close a few years ago, but not close enough.

We went for a simple lunch today, but we both opted for a glass of vino with lunch.  Zelda opted for a glass of Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc, which is always a winner.  I had a glass of riesling, and unfortunately I didn't even look to see what it was.  Weird!  I never do that, but it was the perfect wine for a hot day.

Zelda opted for a turkey burger, and as always, it was nice and juicy, and cooked perfectly.  Her fries on the side were hot and crip, and just downright tasty.  I opted for the Tavern Burger, cooked medium, with nice cheddar cheese, bacon, and Jack Daniels sauteed onions.  It was delicious, and served with Braddocks homemade chips.  The chips were warm and crispy, with what tasted like Old Bay seasoning on them.

What is there to say other than another nice lunch at Braddocks.  Two burgers and two nice glasses of wine for $50 with tip.  A bit pricey for a Sunday lunch, but well worth it given the prices of alcohol in this area.  Nice burgers, and good service.  Look forward to going back again soon.  Cheers!  -F. Braddock's Tavern - Medford, NJ

No trip to Medford, NJ is complete without a trip to Braddock's Tavern for lunch. So after working up an appetite at the Carriage Trade Cheese Shoppe, we walked across the street to Braddock's for lunch off of their pub menu. But if you have the chance, check them out for dinner as well as this is a great dining spot! Zelda's parents joined us today, and we walked in and grabbed a nice 4 top in the pub. First thing I noticed was that the pub had been remodeled a bit, with a wall taken down, and it just looks like there is more room. The bar itself looks a bit different as well, and looks a lot brighter than I remember it being. The new owners definitely did some work on the place when they took over, and it looks as though they did a nice job! The bartender came over and greeted us with water and menu's, and cocktails were in order, ranging from glasses of cabernet sauvignon, to a glass of prosecco. Having a big dinner planned, we opted for the pub menu, as not to fill up. Unfortunately, I filled up anyway, but what can you do. Looks like we're in for a dinner later than usual tonight, but is that such a bad thing? Our server came over, and it seemed like we were all on the same page today with burgers. I opted for the Braddock's Tavern Burger with cheddar cheese, bacon, and sauteed onions, while Zelda opted for the turkey burger. Other burgers at the table included the Tavern Burger, as well as the veggie burger. My burger came out, and was cooked to order medium. It was served on a nice bun, with a heaping mound of bacon and onions. There was also lettuce, tomato, and raw onion, which was definitely overkill and removed. I also ordered the french fries on the side, which were cooked to a crispy golden brown, yet soft and delicious in the middle. These were also sprinkled with a sea salt that was a really nice touch. Zelda's turkey burger came out nice and juicy, nicely cooked, and it just looked darn tasty. Zelda's Dad's burger was also cooked nicely, and her Mom opted for the veggie burger, composed of a grilled portabella mushroom, roasted red peppers, spinach, and provolone cheese. I am all about the meat, and not a big mushroom fan, but this sure looked tasty! In short, everyone enjoyed their burgers were good, and while it was no Rossi burger, it sure was tasty on a different scale. From the bun, to the fries, it was done nicely. There was also a nice crowd in Braddock's today, ranging from other tables in the pub, to a few customers at the bar, including one of my fellow co-workers who happened to be there. So if you get a chance, check out downtown Medford, take a walk, do some shopping, and check out some of their nice restaurants. I think you'll enjoy your trip! Cheers! -F. Lambertville Station - Lambertville, NJ

Well, we've walked by Lambertville Station many of times, and heard nothing but great thing, so we figured we'd give it a try tonight.

We got a great seat outside, sitting along the old train tracks which was a nice treat. Great views of people walking the streets of Lambertville, and quite the commotion going on outside on the deck. We started off with an order of nachos for an appetizer, and they seemed to come out in about 30 seconds. They looked gorgeous with nice melted cheese on top, but once you got into them, they were kind of boring. Salsa dumped on one side of the plate, sour cream on the other side, and inside, under the melted shredded cheese, there was some tomato and onion, as well as some for of liquid cheese. We munched on them, but they were nothing to write home about.

I was torn between the tilapia and the burger on the menu, but after seeing the tilapia go to another table, I opted for the burger. Added swiss cheese, bacon, and grilled onions to it, and it was just OK. Nothing spectacular, and I know for fact that the Inn at the Swan has a better burger in town. At least it was cooked absolutely perfectly though.

Zelda opted for the chicken caeser, and the lettuce was so wet that the dressing wouldn't even stick to it. At least they wash the lettuce first, but take the time to dry it off. Other than that, the croutons were out of a box, and the chicken was pre-sliced out of the package like you would buy at a grocery store.

The highlight of the meal was the $6 house cab, which I don't know what it was, but it was absolutely delicious. We both had a glass, and enjoyed it very much. The service was good and the food came out quick, but for $60, I would go elsewhere. Cheers

Court Jester Restaurant - Freehold, NJ

Nothing at all to write home about, but they make a decent burger. Stopped in here for lunch today after the restaurant that I really wanted to try was closed on Sunday. Zelda said her turkey burger was good, and I had a bacon cheddar burger that was cooked perfectly, and had a good fresh off the grill taste. Saratoga Chips were good, but could have used a few more minutes cooking to get them nice and crispy. Other than that, the service at the bar was up to par, and the place seemed pretty clean. I think the highlight of this restaurant/bar is the fact that they have 30 different beers on draft, and a few of my favorites, Magic Hat No. 9, Blue Moon, Bass, Guinness, and New Castle. Don't even bother with their wine list unless you are in the mood for some Sutter Home or Barefoot. All in all, not a bad place to stop in for a quick bite, but it is bar food at best.
