Grabbed this out of the cellar today for today's celebration of cabernet sauvignon that seems to be a worldwide phenomenon today. I forget the actual name for today's celebration, but I wanted to open a cabernet that I have been looking forward to, and here it is.
This was pulled from the cellar about 2 hours before dinner and decanted for sediment, and then aerated through the Vinturi. Gorgeous deep garnet color in the glass, you could just see the dark fruit flavors oozing in the glass.
On the nose, nice tones of mocha, currants, cassis, and dark raspberry. Secondary creamy notes come through as well with vanilla, mocha, and just a tad of earth.
On the palate, this is gorgeous, and I am kicking myself for not buying more of these way back when. The black fruit are bursting from the glass, with nice blackberry, boysenberry, hints of blueberry, and cassis. There is just enough spice here to not overwhelm, and the plush tannins are very nice. The finish lingers, but I still don't consider it long in the least. The alcohol has taken a back seat, and this has just nicely integrated.
At the end of the day, this is a darn nice wine and worthy of 92 points. Cheers!
